A summary of my experience so far

My name is Manar Naffouj, I am from Syria, I am Vincentian volunteer in 2009-2010, I live in Manchester community with two other volunteers, I work with homeless people at cornerstone day centre in Manchester, and with refugees at Brass centre in Bolton.

I have heard about this programme from my friend who was also volunteer in the same programme. I liked the idea about going to another country to live one year with people from different country, different background, and have a year for doing something to other people.

So now I am here in UK, and I am very happy because I have made this step, it was the right choice. I feel in the end of this year I will have a rich experience, i think it will change my way in my life.

Love Manar

A little about me...

I grew up in Damascus, in a small simple warm family. I studied at a medical institute, and then I studied accounting. When i finished my study i started work with refugees. At the same time i heard about the VV program from my sister’s friend who was also a volunteer from three years ago. So that i started to think that i would like join this program.

During my life i have always wanted to make a difference, something that would impact the lives of others, and i found that the suitable time to make it is now. When i took my decision I was very strong, but when the program began I felt weak and afraid, because everything is strange for me - country, culture, weather, language etc and at the same time I felt that God sent me to this place for some reason, so I started my journey by faith. After a period of time I felt many changes in my character, but I feel now I am more patient, more mature, have more experience with people, and I have deepened my faith. I have until now had a great experience
