Unplugged

Just one day before this silent retreat starts. I'm kind of excited about this. I know it's been about 3 years since I've done my silence week in Taize. I'm also realized that I've been through many many things in these past 2 years. Many experiences that I really need to digest all of it. And yes, even the fruitful experience in the UK, I haven't digest it properly. So, there's a lot of things to digest in these 5 days of silence.

From my first encounter of a silence week, I realized that it's a very rare experience. Every single day, we are plugged to the world. We are the plugged generation, from we wake up in the morning until we sleep in the evening. Chasing the bus, listening to iPod, texting, chatting, planning, working, tweeting, facebooking, and so on. So, a week without doing all those things and just have a peace quality time with the High Divine? Wow, I consider this as a vacation with God. As I remember, if I'm going on vacation, I don't want to be bothered by all the things related to work and stay away from cellphone and laptop as well. So it's quite the same thing but a wee bit extreme; no cellphone, no laptop, no notes under the door, no horizontal communication, but only vertical instea. It's a challenge and I've been through with this silence week before. Foremost, I need this silence week.

So see you in the other side of the road.

A little about me...

I'm always want to become a social worker after finished my bachelor degree in Psychology. Volunteering also not a new thing for me since i've been served young people for Taize Community. That experiences justified me to serve another people, whatever their languages, nationalities, and physical appearances. Because I believe that beyond the broad cultural differences that can create barriers between the continents, all human beings form one family.

From my Social Psychology minor, i've experienced different kind of poverty in Indonesia from our outreach programs. One thing that makes me curious is how is the poverty in a modern and developed country. Is there any poverty there? What kind of poverty that occurs? How is the people and the government deals with that? From those things I believe I can learn a lot and bring it. and help the poor and needy people in my own country.
