Meet the volunteers

Volunteer profile:

A little about me...

I was born and raised in Jefferson City, Missouri. In addition to my parents, I have one older brother Evan, who works in Colorado. I graduated from Xavier University in May of 2011, majoring in History and minoring in Psychology and Theology. My history concentrations were in early American history and African history. When I am not at St. Vincent's or Christopher Grange, I am exploring both Liverpool and the surrounding area.

Why Vincentian Volunteers ...

In March of my senior year at Xavier the plan I had laid out for my life went off track. Faced with a graduation and no clear idea what I wanted to do with my life, I looked at spending a year volunteering abroad. This was one way of giving myself an extra 10 months to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, but more importantly it was at a point in my life where I could pack most of my belongings into two suitcases, travel to a foreign country, and live out Matthew 25:33-40.

My Projects ...

I spend three days a week at St. Vincent’s School for the Sensory Impaired. I am a learning staff assistant and I help the children navigate the hallways, complete their homework, and participate in physical education class. Two nights a week I accompany them off campus to a youth club and to go horse riding. The other two days I spend at Christopher Grange Visual Rehabilitation Center. It is here that my service involves visiting with the service users in between their rehab sessions. My biggest contribution has been my computer knowledge and I am the rehab center’s go-to-guy for any and all computer questions and problems.

My Highlights ...

My highlights so far are exploring Liverpool, Manchester, Chorley, Birkenhead, and Chester. However, I enjoy getting up every day and going to my placements. I absolutely love the children at St. Vincents and enjoy talking to the service users at Christopher Grange
