A little about me...
I was born and had been living in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia whole my life. I came from a big family with 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I graduated from law school and worked as a junior lawyer before I came to England. The reason why I decided to leave my job and do the VV Program is just simple: TO DO AN ADVENTURE WHILE I AM YOUNG! So far I found the VV Program very challenging. Placing myself in diverse cultures is the best way for me to learn about tolerance and how to make the best with differences that we would always perceive. Working at 2 placements is really giving me totally different experiences. Of course there are bad days and good days. But in the end seeing my service users' smiles always gives me the best feeling. To see their smiles is the reason I go to work everyday even through the everlasting bad weather in England!! :)
Why Vincentian Volunteers...
I have chosen to apply for VV Program because I would like to give something to humanity and I think the VV program has the strong paradigm, structure, and calling to serve the society. I have also joined this because my friend has recommended this to me, how being a volunteer has changed her life and perspective.
My projects...
At Revive, currently I am involved in their enrichment projects for the asylum seekers/refugees. On Monday morning I assist during the jewellery making made by the Women Group and a basic IT class in the afternoon. On Tuesday I assist during the creative art making made by the Creative Art Group. Soon, together with a co-worker, we would establish a new project: basic dress making project:). At Revive I also involved in giving food parcels to refugees/asylum seekers whom may need it.
At Mary and Joseph House, on Thursday morning I assist a resident going to his computer class and in the afternoon together with a co-worker, we hold a pool competition for the residents. On Friday morning I am going dog walking with some of the residents and in the afternoon we have a film session.
My highlights so far...
- My community is my little family and I am thanking God for it :)
- Living in another country with completely different cultures, different weather, different foods, different everything... is totally a great experience!
- Through my service, everyday I learn precious lessons that I will never forget.
- After working with all those vulnerable but yet very strong people, I would feel guilty complaining about my day.
- Exploring a new country and learning from the local people.
