A little about me...
I was born and grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia. I'm studying Psychology with education major at Atma Jaya Catholic University. I've not graduated yet. This is the first time I have come to England and to be honest the first time im going abroad. So this is a kind of new experience, trying to live in the country with different cultures. The reason why I want to come is just so simple, I want to do some service. I want to serve God through the 'poor' people. Maybe I wouldn't have got this opportunity in the future so prefered to postpone my study and come to England. I knew about VV from last year's volunteer. She explained everything about VV and their mision for 'poor' people. I was really interested with it so i decided to apply. Also I read about VV from the website. I'm so happy in my work placement. getting the new experiences and serving God through 'poor' people. Im so glad to have Lucy and Peter, living with the community and growing together in the name of Lord. We spend time together, share our sadness and happiness.
Why Vincentian Volunteers...
I choose VV because I want to serve God through 'poor' people which i can find in VV's mision.
My projects...
I'm working at L'Arche, helping the people with learning disabilities to do some work like make a candle, doing some weaving and rugs, help them for swimming, doing some painting. I have to keep them safe, so i have to make sure that they are doing everything in the right way.
I'm working at St Gregory for breakfast club, prepare food for the kids before school and play with them. I share happiness and sadness with all the kids and keep them safe while we play and have breakfast.
My highlights so far...
I am really touched by the core member (people with learning disabilities) when they said that they were so happy to have me in the workshop to help them. I can make them happy, and make them feel safe. Also I am touched by having the beautiful community that can really understand me and care about me. I feel its like home to have a community as my family here. We can grow together in Christ and make the happiness day by day...
