A little about me...
Okay, since it’s called “a little”, this is it: I am from Jakarta, Indonesia. I was graduate from University of Indonesia in 2005 and my major was Dutch Literature. I used to be an editor in the oldest and biggest teenage magazine in Jakarta. My speciality was music and movies. So I like listening to music, especially indie music, and watching movies—weird movies.
Why Vincentian Volunteers?....
Hm, it’s hard question, but I think the answer is simple: I didn’t know any other volunteering programs. I knew about the Vincentian Volunteer (VV) programme through one of my best friends in university. She told me about VV and I tried to find out more about it. I also chose this programme because it is based on Jesus’ love. That’s why i choose VV.
My Projects....
So, four days in a week—Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday—from 9 am to 4 pm, I will be in L’Arche. When you click word “L’Arche” here, you will know more about that lovely place. For sure, when I come there, I will meet a lot great people that absolutely I would not find in another place in the world. We work together making candles (which we go to then sell), making cards and weaving. We laugh a lot. Everything that is funny, we laugh at. We eat together in the dining room everyday. So, basicly what the L'Arche community does is share life together.
One day a week, on Wednesday (from 7.45 am to 9 am, and 3 pm and 7 pm) I will go to St Gregory’s Youth and Community Initiative. You will know it if you click this place. So please do. I call this my playing day. Because all I have to do is play with cute kids! We play hide and seek, football and like recently we played sliding in the snow. Which was very fun!
My Highlights so Far....
Honestly, this is something very new for me. I never do this kind of thing. So, it’s not easy to do, but nothing is impossible in the name of Jesus. So day after day I enjoy being there. Don't ask me about how I give impact to the people I work with as they give a lot of things to me. They show me how to say thanks even if it is for simple things, how to appreciate every person in their uniqueness, how to slow down and try to enjoy every minute of your life, and most of all that Jesus loves everyone.
And there is still long way to go before this voluntering time ends, so there are a lot of things that will happen and change me. And I hope, it will make me a better person and the same thing happens to the people that I work with.
